Brides Day, St. Bridigt's day or, ground hog day

Journal Entry: Mon Feb 1, 2010, 5:39 AM
Hello all you lovely people!

Happy Brides Day, St Brigit's day or Groundhog Day

Brides Day or Imboc is an pre-christian celtic festival orginating from Ireland. You may know it as St. Brigit's day or as Groundhog Day.
For us out in Europe it celecbrates the beginning of the lambing season, animal fertility, farming . The pagans will be celebrating the irish Goddess Brigit..with weaving, sweeping with those brooms of their's, dyeing, wisdom and poetry.

I signifies to me the beginning of spring and all the promise, miracles, wonders and beauty that comes with that. So yes this is one my favourite feastivals of the year.

Celebrate wisely and with love to everyone.

Blessings

Happy New Year!

Journal Entry: Fri Jan 1, 2010, 6:46 AM
Hello all you lovely people!

Wishing you all a creative and fantastic New Year.

I am just recovering from doing a joint exhibit with a landscape artist. He was an unknown artist showing for the first time and he asked me to show with him splitting the price for the rent and basically holding his hand.

His work didn't really go with my work but it worked out ok. And I have another exhibition offer out of it. Which is also a big plus especially as this guy is the centre point of the art community and a master painter in his own right. Huge plus is that he liked my work and my style.

Here are some photos of the event. Photos aren't very good but you can all get the idea of it.

Plus I managed to complete the dahlias series... this was just in time for the exhibition.

So all in all not too shabby an end to 2009. Getting busy now with ideas for 2010... plus I am being advised to set my self up in business. We will see how that all turns out.

What now..

Journal Entry: Wed Sep 9, 2009, 6:59 AM
Hello all you wonderfully talented people,

This is a quick up date from me and where I am now.
The art market went well... as in I received many good compliments and was noted by some and inquiries were made. However we are in an economical crisis so the public were holding tight to their money. Damn.

Items of my bead work were sold...which makes up for it. Plus all the other artists were complaining about the no sales.  So it wasn't a baring on my art work.

Before the art market 2 from my Lilies collection were sold. & . They were sold to an old school friend of mine in Gibraltar. i now have negotiate my way around DHL to get them shipped safely.

So now what. Good question.
It seems that the fishes work goes down well in this country but my flower paintings go down better on-line.  And I really want to get a collection together just so I can start bothering exhibit halls in the area.  Getting seen is the key.

So what I am going to do is 2 more flower paintings...Dahlias - from our garden.  Maybe some other flowers. So then at least I have a flower collection to show.

Then....

I will do some more fishes. With out the checkered background.

However I have just gotten 2 commissions.  One is do to a tattoo based on the game "Gurps" by Steve Jackson.  The artist is Alex Fernandez.  My friend wants a Faerie. Now this is very cool... which is why I am doing it. However she is in England and I am in Holland. I am guessing she wants a black and grey drawing of the Faerie... and now side on, as in the image available on-line. She wants her face on.

Has anyone had any experience with designing black and grey tattoos.  If so I am in need of advise... before I get this all wrong.  And yes I am watching lots of LA Ink.

The second is one I will have to wait for.  The client wants a Buddha.  Now anyone out here in Holland will know that the Buddha paintings are really in fashion.  Its almost an interior and garden fixture.  Which does annoy the hell out of me.  It sort of cheapens the image that Buddha brings.  I am sure it will fall out of fashion as quickly as Mandalas did 3 years ago.

Plus this is the 2nd Buddha I have had to paint. I am not complaining about the work... i was just hoping for something a bit more inventive.

Anyhoo the client is now off deciding on what form of Buddha.

Doing what I can

Journal Entry: Mon Aug 17, 2009, 7:00 AM
Hello everyone,
So sorry for the delay in replies to all the faving (super thank you for those) and all the deviations.  I am just up to date with my replies... and tomorrow I will go to the deviations and give you all my full attention.

I have just begun doing voluntary work for a charity.  This charity is for psychiatric patients doing art therapy.  Many of the patients are of a professional standard so there is a gallery selling their work. I work in the gallery its called "De onopgemerkte schatten"in English "The unnoticed treasures".

The gallery has 2 floors and a sculpture garden. The work shown here is also from local professionals..  so we mix the work and this opens the audience.

The first task was sitting in the gallery talking to everyone who came in.  And now it will be more structured.  Unfortunately I am not stable enough to come in every weekend and do the selling / play hostess.  So they have asked me to assist them in PC and website work.. plus taking all the photography, flyer designs etc.  All this I can do at home and all this the work leaders have no clue about.  The job title is Gallery Manager.... I feel very honoured to be doing something good.

It sure beats sitting at home.  We will see how this all works out now... There is of course the freedom to work slowly here and to pop in to the gallery to be sociable if possible.

So that me for now....features will also be coming up again soon.

Take care x

Summer Fun

Journal Entry: Tue Jul 7, 2009, 5:20 AM
Its been a while since I did an update. I've been busy painting, dealing with doctors, hospitals and all that jazz.
Within this last 6 weeks i have joined a local art group, met the local professional artist and been offered a room to show my work as a guest artist with an organisation that does art therapy work with people with phsycological disorders.
Not only that... but they have offered me voluntary work (as I am not aloud to work at the moment).  I was checked last week by the government main man about my illness and he has also given me the go ahead to do some voluntary work... Yay! For those of you who don't know. I have been home for 14months.
So today I will be chatting with my social worker to see how to do this without it seeming that I am fully functional... coz I am not.

Apart from this excitement I would like to do a feature on all these amazing pieces of work I have been coming across...

So enjoy.

Devious Journal Entry

The painting and the bead thing.

I have finally signed up for the art market.  Which means pulling it together and doing my best to work with what I have got.

It took me far tooo long to complete a painting... so the next one will be faster and using other techniques.  Even with just to colours I managed to make a mess. Still I can blame my current situation, pain and meds.

The bead thing is coming along I have up loaded photos.  The Petroglyph necklace is definately the way I am going now.  There are some more exciting things coming from that direction.

The pyote ties .  I made one ages ago and got many good comments from friends.  So I made some more and there are orders coming in.  The target public is a little older than I expected... but at least they want to buy them.

However all orders have been put off until after the art market otherwise I will not have any to sell.

The other necklaces are easy to make and fun for a really low price.  The economic crisis is finally hitting us out in Holland. So cheap and pretty is the way to go.

There is still much pent up energy due me being held at home by the doctors.  So I decided to improve my drawing skills.
So there will be more coming as I have found I can draw while lying down - YAY!

Not this week but the following week I am in hospital for the last resort.  As a means of controlling the pain they will be giving me an epidural.  Not in my spine but around it.  This is a real hit and miss kind of thing - it may work - it may not.  Who knows. Not too happy about them doing anything around my damaged spine but I am giving it a go.

Due to economic crisis my boyfriend has lost his job.... plus point is that I will no longer be home alone.  But here is hoping that he will find something quick.

So much pain I am driven to paint

Hello!

I have been away from DA for a while.  This was mainly due to watching all of you doing your amazing art thing and me doing not very much.  So instead of wasting hours on-line I got my butt in gear to do some art work... and focus.

So focus has been on my black and white fish - having researched some more I have indeed developed the idea.  Plus a close friend pointed out that these fishes are more like me than the naturalist flower exercise. I am weirdly becoming known for my fish paintings.

Second focus is getting beading and stuff together to sell at the summer art fair this year. This will be the 5th edition Kunstmarkt in Hoorn on 7th September. It sound like I am getting ahead of myself but I would rather be ready earlier than have a made dash later.  I will be selling my painting, jewelery and will be join by Trees my boyfriends mother who will be selling her handmade quilting work.

So please except my apologies for the lateness in replies to message and the hundreds of deviations I now have to check out.

On the health issue, I am now waiting for my appointment with the pain clinic.  These guy will be looking for ways to dull the pain because the meds aren't working.  However on the upside the power in my legs is back - yay for me! This means that I am doing more and the pain is increasing due to me moving around all the time. Its almost been a year now so I am going a little crazy, hens the strive to keep focused on painting and making stuff to sell.

I am so tired now!

If you feel like being supportive my painting the violas

is the Music contest being held by the Traditional Artists group.  So please vote for me!

8 Things To Know About Me

Tue Jan 27, 2009, 4:14 AM
This is a tag thing but I don't do the tagging thing so....

1. Post these rules.
2. Each tagged person must post 8 things about themselves on their journal.
3. At the end, you have to choose and tag 8 people and post their icons on the same journal.
4. Go to their pages and send a message saying you tagged them.
5. No tag-backs.

I'm not tagging anyone, so feel free to snag it from me.
-------------------------

1. I suffer from Transverse Myelitis - which is like a none developing variation of MS.  I was diagnosed - kind of... 8-9 months ago. It has had a huge impact on my life in a negative way - I  lost my job... a positive way - I now have more time for my friends and family. Recent developments are that I now have the power back in my legs... which can mean in the long run that there is hope for recovery - Yay for me!!!

2. I am British and came to live in Holland with my Dutch boyfriend almost 5 years ago. Which is why my English is so good (or not).

3. My education is in Theatre Design... however I was more in love with the theory than the practice and got a job as a draughtsman / tech. designer as a means of paying the bills. All my drawing and painting skills I learned from studying under professional friends, family members and evening classes.

4. I read like a maniac. I always have a book in my bag no matter where I go... So obsessed in this I only buy bags that are big enough to carry books. Favourite literary areas are - classic British English, Contemporary American Literature, Japanese Literature ... World Classics - and above all else my love of odd surreal contemporary writers.

5. I am trying to complete a collection at the moment. It is taking me for ever just to finish one painting though... due to an overly active perfectionist complex and my body not coping with the pressure.

6. I am a massive Sci Fi fan... Star Trek, Dr Who, Babylon 5, X-Files.... Above all else I am huge fan of Dune by Frank Herbert and collect the works as 1st editions.  The following trilogies by his son were good enough but the last was like drinking watered down soup.  This initial ingredients was there but the style was weakened.

7. We have 2 kittens which now dominate my life.  The little female Tara is my constant companion even bring her toy mice to bed so I can play catch with her (yes like a dog). She is very timid and is only just allowing affection from my boyfriend and his mother.

8. I adore crafts and thrive on learning new things all the time.  At the moment I am trying to make some things to sell at the art markets this summer.  This will include more crochet blankets, beaded jewelery and maybe some paintings if I can ever finish them.

More Christmas presents

Mon Dec 22, 2008, 4:07 AM
So I thought the craft thing was done

Well I realised there was much more to finish off and send out for X-mas.  The reason for this last minute dash was due to certain beads not arriving in time and certain beads just not arriving! Hmmm.

Anyhoo these are the last of my Christmas gifts:-

Pink Heart Wire Set

Girls Wooden Necklace

Silver Herringbone Choker Set

Victorian Chocker Red/Black

Christmas presents away!

Thu Dec 11, 2008, 8:18 AM
The intense craft weeks are now over!

So its almost christmas and as I am not flying back to the UK to be with my family this year, I had to send all the presents in the post.  This year I made I a few of the presents... Its nice to do and they mostly beat bought presents (well depending on who you give the present to).

Check out the things I made:

The Pink and Black Baby Hat
Pink and Black Socks
Crochet Skull Bag
Victorian choker in green (medium)
Victorian Choker in green (small)

So now I can go back to the flowers painting I began.  Even though the flowers are now dead I did (sensibly) make photos of them so I can continue. Yay!!!!

Personality re-definition!

Tue Dec 9, 2008, 5:59 AM
Therapist are shrinking my head

I was asked yesterday to consider would I was if I couldn't work and can't maintain my own house.  It's pretty deep but the therapist is trying to psychologically get me to rest... and it isn't working.

So how do you define yourself?  Is it through your career, your friends, if your are a parent, a home maker..... Having had to reassess who I was when I moved to another country, I am totally unprepared to have to ask the same question a few years later.

So far my answer is... I am a survivor and a life's winner.
